PTO Meeting & One Act Play – April 19

PTO Meeting will be on April 19th at 6:00 PM.

Following the meeting at 6:30 PM will be a play performance by our very own students.

One Act Play -Tracks by Peter Tarsi 6:30 pm

$5 for adults, $3 for students (These donations will go toward the One Act students getting T-Shirts to commemorate this play season.)

You can buy the tickets from Ms. Hunter, Mr. Goodson, and the Front Office.

The meeting and the performance will be held in Rotunda. All staff and parents are very welcome to join us!

Art Sale – April 4

For: Earnings go towards Gifted & Talented field trips

Cost: $10 each

Students participating: 4th, 5th, 8th grade

Texas Science and Engineering Fair

 

A big congrats to Victoria F., Liberty K. Eliyah E. for being nominees for the 2018 Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars), a program of Society for Science & the Public.

The Broadcom MASTERS is a national competition. Only 10% of middle school projects nationwide are invited to apply online for the national competition.

A big thank you to Mr. Ilhan, Mr. & Mrs. Kelly, Ms.Carla and Ms. Fasakin for being present and supporting our team as well as Mr. Altiyev, Mr. Aslan and middle school science teachers for supporting our students.

 

Help Us Make Blessing Bags

 

 

Students are collecting items for homeless teens and women to make blessing bags to be donated to the women and teen shelters in Dallas.

Items requested: make-up, toiletries, tampons, clothes, ALL hygiene products.

Please help us gather what we can to help the women and teens in need!

All items can be dropped off to Ms. Harris, Room 309.

Middle School Spring Fling Semi-formal Dance

Grades 6-8th
Come join us on Friday March 23rd, 2018 from 6 PM – 8 PM for an evening of food, fun and music provided by D.J. Mike Boogie.
Tickets are on sale now during lunch in both cafe’s. Tickets may also be purchased from Mr. Bartnicki after school in room 213. Ticket’s are $10.00 (cash only).
This event is hosted by National Junior Honor’s Society and all proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

What is NJHS and what can it bring to a school?

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a campus based program recognizing outstanding middle school students in grades six through eight and engaging them in the meaningful development of leadership skills and a personal understanding of the value of service. More than just an honor roll, NJHS gives each member school a means of identifying high-achieving students who have an understanding of what it means to be a responsible student and citizen in our world, today.
An NJHS chapter connects your school to a national network of those committed to awakening all young people to the many opportunities available to those who commit to excellence. An NJHS chapter can motivate your students to apply high standards of excellence in all that they do in life. Through chapter activities that involve the entire student body, this message can be shared with all students.  Through the resources of the national office and the activities of the local chapter, you provide new opportunities for students to be more actively engaged in their education and in the world around them.

Course selections for 2018-2019 have started!

8th grade meetings are in progress, and 9-11th students have just started.

9-11th Grade Course Selection Forms are available to download as follow:

Current 9th Grade | 10th Grade | 11th Grade

Appeal Form for AP/Honors courses are also available. This is due April 1, 2018.

Parent meetings are not required for current 9-11th grade course selections, but are available upon request.

This form will be used by the Advanced Placement Committee if the student does not currently meet the initial PSAT/TSI policy. Filling this form does not guarantee entry into an AP course, and students will still be required to complete all required summer assignments in order to stay in the course.

The committee will consider the following information to determine if a student is eligible for an honors or AP Course: AP Potential- PSAT, SAT/TSI/ACT and other test data if available, teacher recommendations, previous AP Experience, AP Exams, and GPA.

Math League Competition

Mathleague.org is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a math contest on Saturday Mar 31, 2018 for students in grades 3 through 6. Testing will consist of Sprint, Target, Number Sense, and Team rounds. The contest will be held on campus.
